Proverbs 12:26 The righteous choose their friends carefully,

    but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Such important words of wisdom. The youth group is studying the book of Proverbs, and this is often picked out by them as an important. I am thankful that it is repeated throughout Proverbs to reinforce that, and I pray that they remember it all their lives. Because it is not only important for the children. As adults choosing our friends is equally important. When we have friends who are believers that walk the walk then we are more likely to walk the walk as well. Also, these are the friends that we can trust to speak truth into our lives when we are tempted to believe the lies of the world. They can be the voice of reason when we are feeling all those things that make us want to be un-Christlike and give into our sinful natures. In the same way when our friends are walking the walk of the world, we are more likely to be drawn down that same path. Not only will they not speak truth to us and try to hold us back from the temptations of our sinful nature, but they will likely encourage it and reinforce the lies of enemy.

What about you? Are you the kind of friend that the wise person would choose? We should want to live a life that makes us the person that other believers would choose to be friends with. So, look around at your friends. Which walk do most of them walk. If more are walking the way of the world than walking with Christ, then maybe you aren't being chosen as a friend by the wise.
