Chronological Bible Readings

1 Chronicles 11:6 David had said to his troops, “Whoever is first to attack the Jebusites will become the commander of my armies!” And Joab, the son of David’s sister Zeruiah, was first to attack, so he became the commander of David’s armies.

If this really is chronologically correct then Joab becoming commander of the army was after he had killed Abner. Or maybe this is all around the same time and is just being listed in this order. Either way we see the support for Joab being family making it harder for David to have him killed and we see that he did not consider Joab's state of mind or spiritual state when making him commander.
