April 23, 2024 - My Mistakes Can't Stop Him

Judges 1:1-2:9

Luke 21:29-22:13

Psalm 90:1-91:16

Proverbs 13:24-25

Judges 1:1 After the death of Joshua, the Israelites asked the Lord, “Who of us is to go up first to fight against the Canaanites?”

The Lord answered, “Judah shall go up; I have given the land into their hands.”

The men of Judah then said to the Simeonites their fellow Israelites, “Come up with us into the territory allotted to us, to fight against the Canaanites. We in turn will go with you into yours.” So the Simeonites went with them. When Judah attacked, the Lord gave the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.

The Lord told Judah to go not Judah and the Simeonites. The fact that this time when they didn't follow God's commands to the letter they were still given victory is comforting to me. I think of the times that I don't do things exactly like God has said, and I have a lot to think about on that, it is a comfort to know that God's will still prevails. Even if I don't get it right God is faithful and will see His purpose and plan in my life to completion. My mistakes can't stop Him. He will just keep on working in me and building me up.

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

This was one of the verses for the sermon on Sunday at my camp church. I rejoice in the promise that the Lord has begun a good work in me and that even though I may not get it right all the time He is still working. That is what sanctification is all about. Jesus' work in our lives that changes us and makes us more like Him. It never stops until He returns and our work on this earth is done. As Jesus carries out His good work in and through us we are being sanctified. We should see a change in ourselves and so should others, but we should not expect perfection because there will only be one perfect human to walk this earth. And until He does it again, we can rest in the confidence that He is faithful and will see us through it all.
