Chronological Bible Readings

2 Samuel 9:1 One day David asked, “Is anyone in Saul’s family still alive—anyone to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Reading this chronologically feels like it took a long time for David to think to do this. Also, David and Jonathan were best friends you would think he would know his children. Why did it take so long for David to honor his oath to Johnathan? Mephibosheth was 5 when Jonathan died and he was crippled. Now he has a son so he in probably in his early 20s. That's at least 15 years before David does this. I know he has been busy and I am not criticizing but I am surprised. I can't criticize because I have a tendency to get lost in my busy life and not reach out to those who may need some help. I have to believe that God knew the timing and David reached out just when he needed to reach out.
