2 Samuel 11:14 So the next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and gave it to Uriah to deliver. 15 The letter instructed Joab, “Station Uriah on the front lines where the battle is fiercest. Then pull back so that he will be killed.” 16 So Joab assigned Uriah to a spot close to the city wall where he knew the enemy’s strongest men were fighting. 17 And when the enemy soldiers came out of the city to fight, Uriah the Hittite was killed along with several other Israelite soldiers.
David knew the character of Joab. He was not a man of God and was someone who was comfortable with doing bad things. David not only let his lust win and gave into sin he sets a bad example for his people. I can just her Joab talking. "See even our king does what is necessary to protect himself and get what he wants. Joab was one of his closest advisers. Those close to us will directly influence how we think and what we do. Another reason it is important to select God fearing and Christ-like people to be around us and to work with us and for us. A Christlike person who is working with us and/or for us is more likely to stand up for what is right and true. Nathan was a prophet of God and feared God more than the king so he was willing to speak truth to David the king. We should look to surround ourselves with Nathans not Joabs.
