August 20, 2024 -Eternal Maturity

ESTHER 8:1-10:3

1 CORINTHIANS 12:27-13:13

PSALM 37:1-11

PROVERBS 21:23-24

1Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

As I read these words I thought of the progression of our faith walks. When we first give our lives to Jesus we are infants who need to feed on the basics of Christianity. Just as a baby needs to be hand fed. We need to learn the foundational concepts and seek understanding from those who are more mature so that we can grow. As grow into children we can begin to feed ourselves and seek to understand the basic things and it will begin to influence our lives. We will learn the basics of what it means to live for Christ. We will start to recognize His work in the world around us. It will begin to affect our actions and words, but just as a child will pick and choose what they will obey and when they will obey, we will too. We will rationalize our sin by still clinging to the ways of the world. Then as we read, study and experience God personally more and more we will mature into adulthood. We will then be able to walk in obedience with less struggle to live a life pleasing to God. We will still stumble but we should be able to recognize those stumbles and repent. But even at that point what we see and understand is only a poor reflection of what it will be like when we are with Him in eternity. When we can know and understand everything clearly. When we can fully know and be fully known. No matter where you are in your walk, you are never fully mature. We will not reach full maturity until we are eternally mature. So, none of us should ever think that we know enough. That we have learned enough. Or that we understand it all. There will never come a time on this earth that we should stop reading the word of God, studying it with others, or seeking to understand and follow His will. So don't ever stop learning and growing!
