August 6, 2024 -Milk v/s Meat

EZRA 3:1-4:23

1 CORINTHIANS 2:6-3:4

PSALM 28:1-9

PROVERBS 20:24-25

1Corinthians 2:10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

The only way we can begin to understand the greatness of God is with the help of the Spirit of God.

1Corinthians 2:13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

God teaches us and speaks to us through His Spirit. When we read the word of God the understanding that we have comes from the Spirit of God when we are listening for Him.

1Corinthians 3:1 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

When we accept Christ the Spirit of God comes to live in us but if we do not listen for the Spirit and seek His teaching we will not grow in our understanding of Spiritual things. There are those who accept Christ and just as the Corinthian church do not look to grow in their relationship with Christ. They do not seek the wisdom of God through the Spirit and Word of God. They are content with a basic understanding of Jesus. As a result they also do not grow out of the worldly influences of their surroundings because they lack the understanding and wisdom that can only come from relationship with God. Paul exhorts them to seek to grow in Christ that they might feed on the deeper things of Christ. I think the longer a person feeds on milk the harder it will be to stomach the meat. The deeper, harder and more complex concepts of God are not just unpalatable or not understandable to those who don't believe but also to those who don't seek to grow. The longer a person lives at a basic level of relationship with Christ when the Spirit speaks a harder truth to them it makes them uncomfortable and they will not receive it. Like giving a baby some solid food for the first time they will spit it out if they are not open to trying something new. I think that is why some churches and individuals are willing to compromise their morality to conform to the world. It is not a lack of belief it is a lack of growth.
