February 20, 2024 - Go With Jesus

Leviticus 9:7-10:20

Mark 4:26-5:20

Psalm 37:30-40

Proverbs 10:6-7

Mark 5:18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Every single one of us who has been saved by Jesus has experienced a change in our lives. For some the change is more drastic and immediate and for other it's more subtle and gradual, but there should be a change. We are living in an evil world with a sin nature, so we are all influenced by evil and before we meet Jesus we are in bondage to that sin. When we meet Jesus and He frees us from that possession over our lives we want to follow Him. We want to "go with him" and for some people (ahem, me) the excitement is so great you just want to go with Him and be part of EVERYTHING He is doing. Each one of us has our own ideas of what going with Jesus looks like. I, like the man in this story, want to get in the boat and go. I would love for Jesus to call me to missionary work in another country or give me a ministry where I can travel around the world and engage thousands of people and see Him working and feel His spirit all through it every day. But His idea of what it means to "go with him" is often different from mine. Instead, He has me staying home with my own people. My family, my friends, my church my community, my workplace are my own people. He knows all the reason why getting in the boat right now is not right for me, others, and the Kingdom. Maybe for you, you are content to stay right where you are and God has been calling you to get in the boat with Him but you keep holding back. I encourage you to listen and obey because He knows what is best for you, others and the Kingdom as well. When I have, I am amazed at all the things that He does all around me every day. Every one of us has a mission field where we are to go and tell people what He has done for us and how He has had mercy on us and that is what we are to do wherever God has us go. We need to stop trying to tell Him what we want to do and listen to what He wants us to do and obey. That is how we can "go with Jesus". Only then will we have an impact for the kingdom and experience the true joy and piece of "going with Jesus".
