Mark 6:7 Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.
Jesus gives authority to do what they would normally never be able to do. Before Jesus ascended into heaven He also sent the disciples out. He reminds them of the power that He has and assures them that they will not be going alone. He will be with them.
Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This also is our calling. To go out and tell others about Jesus and all that He is and all that He has done and all that He has taught. We can be confident that as we go about our day even when we are by ourselves we are never alone. Jesus is with us and He gives us His power to do all that He has called us to do. We don't have to worry or be afraid of sharing the good news because we have the power of Jesus with us and He will empower us to do whatever it is that He has called us to.
Psalm 39:1 I said, “I will watch my ways
and keep my tongue from sin;
I will put a muzzle on my mouth
while in the presence of the wicked.”
2 So I remained utterly silent,
not even saying anything good.
He also gives us discernment to know when to speak and what to say as we go about our day. The more time we spend with God listening to Him the better we can recognize and discern when to speak and not speak. What to say and what not to say.
There is great power available to us but we must be walking with Jesus as one of His disciples to receive it and know how to use it. Thank you Lord for this reminder that it is not me who is doing the work that you have called me to do but You working through me.
