January 11, 2024 - Humility before Anger

Genesis 24:52-26:16

Matthew 8:18-34

Psalm 10:1-15

Proverbs 3:7-8

Genesis 24:52 When Abraham’s servant heard what they said, he bowed down to the ground before the Lord.

Bowing down on the ground before the Lord is a position of humility, praise and worship. When we praise Him for all that He is it opens our eyes and hearts to our weakness, our need for God, and the greatness of His love for us. When we put God in the place He deserves and ourselves in the place we deserve we will be humbled and He will be worshiped. So don't be surprised if you feel compelled to bow down to the ground in worship.

Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;

    fear the Lord and shun evil.

This will bring health to your body

    and nourishment to your bones.

I just talked to someone about her anger. In the first hour of our time together she told me of multiple people she was angry with and multiple things that made her angry including the music playing at the restaurant and the commercials that she has seen on TV. She is trapped in a cycle of anger, unforgiveness and bitterness. I told her that I am recognizing that everything she is saying to me is about anger. Her response was that it's a normal human emotion. Which is true God gave us the emotion of anger to prompt us to do something about injustice and immorality. Holding onto anger and resentment is sin and is from the enemy. The enemy wants to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus came to give us life to the fullest. When we give into the lies of the enemy we cannot have life to the fullest he steals our peace, he kills our joy and destroys our relationships. It also is proven to take away our physical and emotional health. Which she is experiencing in extremes. One of the things I noticed is that everyone she was angry with the anger was based on her ideas of what someone must have said or done or what she believed their motivation was and she refused to talk to them because she was angry and she didn't care what they had to say because she knows she is right. She is wise in her own eyes and would not fear the Lord and do what Jesus teaches us to do. To love and forgive and be humble. Instead of shunning evil she gave into it and it grew into a deep pit of bitterness and resentment that effects everything in her life including her physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Seek God's wisdom and surrender your own in humility so that you might have life and have it to the fullest. Sing Praises to Him and meditate on who He is and what He has done. May that bring you to a place of humble Worship. Even bow down to the ground on your knees as a physical statement to God and to yourself of your humble state and experience the freedom and health that comes from a life surrendered to God.
