January 20, 2024 - Wheat Weeds and Wisdom

Genesis 41:17-42:17

Matthew 13:24-46

Psalm 18:1-15

Proverbs 4:1-6

Genesis 41:46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt.

Joseph was 17 yrs old when his brothers sold him into slavery and this is 13 years later. I wonder how many times he prayed for God to set him free from slavery and or prison. But even in that entire time he never lost his focus on God. Every time that someone tried to give him the glory he always pointed them back to God. All his wisdom came from God and he knew it. He never lost faith and he never lost hope and trust in God. When we go through difficult times it may seem like an eternity that we are struggling. We may cry out to him over and over again but we must not lose hope. Always trust in God and look to Him. Looking to see Him in even the smallest things and give Him the glory.

Matthew 13:24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

When the weeds start to grow in a field it closely resembles the new wheat growth. It would be very easy to mistakenly pull up wheat with the weeds. But once the wheat is matured and ready for harvest then you can tell the difference. We are surrounded by weeds. People who look like Christians on the surface but they don't grow to maturity like the true body of Christ does. We don't have to weed out the church because God will do that at the final harvest but we do need to realize that there are weeds out there and be discerning in our interaction with them.

Matthew 13:29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them.

Because if we make it our responsibility to try to remove them there may be some less mature Christians that get lost in the weeding. Whether it be we mistake immaturity for weeds or our actions and words toward a non-believer cause a young believer to leave the body out of a lack of understanding. Put it in God's hands and just love Him and others.
