January 26, 2024 - Here I Am and Here I Wait.

Exodus 2:11-3:22

Matthew 17:10-27

Psalm 22:1-18

Proverbs 5:7-14

3:4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”

Again we see an example of God calling and what our response should be "Here I am." Just as when God called Abraham to sacrifice Isaac he said "Here I am."

2:24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.

The covenant with Abraham was hundreds of year before and they still weren't there. How difficult it is to wait for God to fulfill a promise to us when it is a few years or even a few months. Imagine waiting hundreds of years. There is great importance to teach our children about the promises of God and his faithfulness. We are currently in a time of waiting. Waiting for the return of Jesus and sadly we as a nation are not very good and passing that promise on to the youth so that they may hold onto that hope and be faithful in the waiting.

3:8 So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

Even though it has been a really long time God does not just leave them waiting He reminds them. He reminded Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Now he reminds Moses and tells him to remind the people. The same goes for us. As believers He reminds us all the time through His word and through our personal experiences with Him. He also reveals Himself to non-believers in powerful ways so that they may also come to know Him what He has done and what He is going to do so that they too have a promise of Jesus return to look forward to.

17:27 “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”

I wonder how long Peter had to wait for that first fish to bite. I get the feeling Peter was not a good waiter. That is one of the reasons I feel a connection to him. I do not wait very well but I am getting better at it. We just went deep sea fishing and did some bottom fishing where you drop a line and wait. We did not have to wait very long before a fish would bite but we did not always get it to the surface. So talking about the long wait for the Israelites to get to the promised land made me wonder how long Peter had to wait for God to provide what He promised to provide. I hope God is keeping track of all these "I wonder" thought and hope He will just give me the answer to all of them when I get to heaven. That will be one massive upload of data lol.
