January 7, 2024 - Forgiven = Forgiver

Genesis 16:1-18:15

Matthew 6:1-24

Psalm 7:1-17

Proverbs 2:1-5

12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

I have studied the Lord's Prayer many times and explored the importance of forgiveness. I know that this speaks to our need to forgive others but today this brought to mind another perspective for me. Forgive me my debts. If I remember that I am a sinner and that I have hurt others whether it be intentionally or unintentionally I am more likely to be able to forgive others.

Instead of looking at the other persons faults and thinking about what they have done to wrong me I must first look at my own sin. Instead of dwelling on the fact that someone has let me down if I remember all the times that I had let someone down it should be easier to forgive others for the same thing. I don't deserve to be forgiven but Jesus still died for me. We don't have to die physically to forgive others, but we do have to die to our pride and selfish worldly ideas about forgiveness.

I think that when looking at forgiveness from the perspective of I want to be forgiven and remembering all that I have to be forgiven for changes my heart toward the other persons. When I look to God and His heart of grace and love then my heart changes and I am able to also show grace and love.

Thank you Lord for forgiving my sins and helping me to understand not just that I should forgive others but also how I can do that even when the hurt runs deep.

Proverbs 3:

23 Then you will go on your way in safety,

and your foot will not stumble.

~Reminds me to keep moving toward God, no matter the falls, the limps, the pain…He will always catch me.

24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

~My sleep, for a while now, has not been healthy. Either too little, too much or fitful. I find that if I fall asleep praying, sleep is better. As soon as I wake I praise Him with prayer.

25 Have no fear of sudden disaster

or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,

~This verse has always been so comforting, as when I battle physical, mental, spiritual, financial…
