January 8, 2024 - Who am I to judge?

Genesis 18:16-19:38

Matthew 6:25-7:14

Psalm 8:1-9

Proverbs 2:6-15

Genesis 18:18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.

This is the promise of Jesus. Jesus is from Abraham's line. The Israelites were God's chosen people but the misunderstanding is that they are chosen for them to be blessed. But when God say's ALL nations on earth will be blessed we see that the Israelites were chosen to be the people that the Messiah would come from and that His gift would not be just for Jews but also for Gentiles. In the sermon today pastor Rick used the great commission for his scripture and he mentioned that the people that Jesus taught were mostly Jews and the area was limited. He gives the disciples the instruction to go into the whole world and preach and teach the good news of Jesus. The disciples were Jews and were chosen to be the way that all nations are blessed by Jesus' gift.

Genesis 18:19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

More doing what is right and just.

Mathew 7:1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

This takes me back to yesterday's post about being forgiven and looking at my own need for forgiveness making me better able to forgive others. When it comes to judgement, to do what is right and just you should always look at yourself before you look at others and judge.

Matthew 7:3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

Over and over again Jesus teaches us that when we are tempted to look at someone else negatively that we should recognize our broken sinfulness first. The only one who is free from sin and doesn't even have a speck in His eye is Jesus. If He forgives us and does not hold our sin against us in judgement than we have no reason to do less for others.

Mathew 6:

27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Worry…another one of Satan’s playgrounds…along with grief, illness, stress…you name it…these 2 verses need to be memorized and repeated. Thank you Lord for this sweet reminder…in perfect timing.

Mathew 7:

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Ask…Seek…Find..Amen. It is so very simple…why do…
