January 9, 2024 - Fruit of the Rock

Genesis 20:1-22:24

Matthew 7:15-29

Psalm 9:1-12

Proverbs 2:16-22

17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

Our actions those when we are seen and those when we are not seen reflect our righteousness. We can do and say all the right things when someone is looking and listening to us but what we do in private speaks to our fruitfulness even more. It is like the couple of strawberries on the bottom of the container of perfect looking strawberries. They are still bad fruit and they will cause all the other fruit in the container to go bad. I must keep this thought always before me. When I am reading my bible and writing this blog I am very focused on Christ and I must look like a good fruit kind of person but I don't want to just look like a good fruit person I want to BE a good fruit person so that means I need to keep my eyes focused on Christ. I must produce good fruit even when people are not listening or watching. I saw tonight why God has been sending me the lessons that He has. I was tempted to respond in a very bad way to my husband today. He did not respond the way I had thought he would about a situation at home and I was immediately annoyed by it. I recognized the annoyance but it did not stop me from speaking with a very unkind tone of voice. Because of these daily readings and the recent repetition of messages I was able to catch myself and look at myself and my motivation behind my negative feelings. Now this is something that does not happen usually when I get feeling this way. I know that the only reason I was able to bear good fruit in this personal and private moment was because of being grounded in the word as I am right now. I thank God that He is pruning away my bad fruit and giving me all the nourishment I need to produce good fruit.

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

So I guess you could say that when we build our house on the rock everything that comes from it including the fruit that we produce will be good fruit. So we want fruit that comes from the rock. Because there is no Rock Like Our God - https://youtu.be/8_gD5pVhS3k?si=Vc_QTqflXGv6F-k_

Mathew 7

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

I pray to be a house that is built on the rock. I pray I realize that even standing firmly on the rock, when the rains come down or the streams rise, and when the winds blow, and they beat against me, that I know it will be OK. Because as human beings it is normal to sway a bit in the wind, ta…
