July 20, 2024 -Enslaved to Righteousness

2 CHRONICLES 1:1-3:17

ROMANS 6:1-23

PSALM 16:1-11

PROVERBS 19:20-21

Romans 6:19 I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.

Paul is trying to explain heavenly things in earthly terms. In reality we can never fully understand heavenly things. Some people will say that they don't want to be a Christian because they don't want to have to give up the things they "like" to do. They see Christianity as a limitation but they don't see that they are actually enslaved to the things they don't want to give up. But in reality, we know that faith in Jesus can free us from that enslavement. And the desire to hold onto the sin in our life is keeping us from Jesus. Once we give our lives to Jesus we should be willing to surrender all of ourselves to Him and the righteousness that He would have us live up to even more so than we did the sinful desires that we were giving ourselves to. Also when He convicts us of a sin in our life then we should surrender it to Jesus and the righteousness that He have given us. Being enslaved to "righteousness leading to holiness" is freeing which may be hard for our human minds to understand but with the help of God through the Holy Spirit we can.

Psalm 16:1 Keep me safe, my God,

    for in you I take refuge.

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;

    apart from you I have no good thing.”

David understood the need to turn to God in times of difficulty and temptation. When we are struggling with temptations and difficulties we can take refuge in Him.
