July 25, 2024 -High Places

2 CHRONICLES 14:1-16:14

ROMANS 9:1-24

PSALM 19:1-14

PROVERBS 20:1

2 Chronicles 15:17 Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life.

I have read so many times of the kings "he did not remove the high places". Usually, I was surprised when I read after that, his "heart was fully committed to the Lord". But today I read this and it gave me comfort. Because we live in a world that is full of high places and we can't get rid of them. Preaching to non-believers about the "high places" in their life will do nothing to change them. But if we live with hearts "fully committed to the Lord" we can live in this world of false gods and still be blessed. I think we can also have some "high places" in our lives. Things that could easily distract us from God. We should try to remove these from our lives but when we don't the condition of our hearts is known by God and that is what matters.

2 Chronicles 16:12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians.

This struck home because I have some problems with my feet. Reading this after talking about divine healing in Sunday school makes me think that I should seek help from the Lord for it.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God;

    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Day after day they pour forth speech;

    night after night they reveal knowledge.

They have no speech, they use no words;

    no sound is heard from them.

Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,

    their words to the ends of the world.

In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.

There are times that God may prompt us to speak out in the face of unbelief but sometimes we don't have to say anything. Just as nature declares the glory of God without speaking, our lives fully committed to the Lord can do the same.

Psalm 19:14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart

    be pleasing in your sight,

    Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.
