March 16, 2024 - Pass It On

Numbers 24:1-25:18

Luke 2:1-35

Psalm 59:1-17

Proverbs 11:14

Luke 2:6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

From Easter in Mark to Christmas in Luke. It is good to see that they have finally gotten a better translation for Kataluma. Cam has taught for many years that a Joseph would have had a lot of family in Bethlehem and he would not have gone to an inn to stay. The word Kataluma is better translated guest room and the stable is actually the common area of the home where animal were brought into at night. Cam was always ahead of the pack in things like this. Such a great biblical scholar and teacher. I had learned so much from him. I thank God for brining me to his church at the beginning of my spiritual journey. He is one the people that God used to teach me and build me up into the person I am in Christ. I miss him and his wonderful wife Laurie so much. She is also an amazing teacher and friend and I have learned so much from her as well.

Luke 2:34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

And then Simeon brings us back around to Easter again. As we think about how deeply Mary's soul had to have been ached as she witnessed all that Jesus had gone through. Thanks to Cam I have watched and studied the Passion of the Christ many times. I recommend watching it every year perhaps on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday. The depiction of Mary during Jesus beatings and crucifixion really demonstrates what Simeon says, "And a sword will pierce your own soul too", very well. Again, thank you Cam for your teaching and Thank you Lord for keeping my heart and eyes on Jesus death and resurrection this Lenten season.

After writing this I went to a wedding that Cam officiated that I had forgotten that I was going to see Him there. I told him I wrote about him in my blog and got a little choked up when I told him what I said and thanked him in person. He knows me very well and I am sure he was not surprised by my tears. But when I told him that I was grateful for all that I have learned from him, he said that he too had great teachers. Just pass it on. That is what I pray God will give me an opportunity to do and that I might be obedient to do so.
