March 30, 2024 -How He Loves Us, Oh How He Loves Us

Deuteronomy 13:1-15:23

Luke 8:40-9:6

Psalm 71:1-24

Proverbs 12:5-7

Nothing caught my attention in the reading but as I am out of town and have a lot going on my normal Holy Week activities are disrupted. That however makes me want to be more intentional and reflective on the arrest, crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus. I am writing this on Good Friday and you will be reading on Saturday when Jesus would have been in the tomb. Let us remember what our sin put Him through and realize how great His love for us is.

As I continue through this day and think about Jesus burial I am thinking about the disciples. Jesus died and was placed in the tomb quickly to be done before the Passover. The Passover was to be a celebration of remembrance. They were to remember how they were protected from death by the blood of the lamb when God set them free from slavery to the Egyptians. At this point they did not understand that the blood of Jesus that was spilled was the blood of the lamb that is going to eternally free them from slavery to sin. This had to be the saddest most confusing and painful Passover meal that they have ever partaken in.

Just as the Israelites had to take the blood and put in on the door posts of their house, to save their firstborn children you must be covered by the blood of Jesus. Jesus freely gave His life and to be covered in the loving protective blood of the Lamb you must freely trust in Him. There is no work that you can do to be saved but we are given free will so you must make the decision to give your life to Him and when you do you will be covered by His blood and be made a new creation.
