JUDGES 1:1-3:30
Judges 2:10 After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.
The current generation is the most unchurched generation in this nation. If you start with a handful of people who turn from God and therefore do not introduce their children to God and take them to church then their kids are likely to do the same. This means every generation will have less and less children exposed to God through their family. Even those who go to church fail to study and know the word of God. Without the word of God we cannot know God and all the mighty things that he has done. Without a leader who is pointing the people to God it will all trickle down.
Joshua 2:11 The Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight and served the images of Baal. 12 They abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They went after other gods, worshiping the gods of the people around them. And they angered the Lord.
The natural progression of a people who turn away from the One True God is to turn toward other gods. Which will and should anger God.
Joshua 2:16 Then the Lord raised up judges to rescue the Israelites from their attackers. 17 Yet Israel did not listen to the judges but prostituted themselves by worshiping other gods. How quickly they turned away from the path of their ancestors, who had walked in obedience to the Lord’s commands.
18 Whenever the Lord raised up a judge over Israel, he was with that judge and rescued the people from their enemies throughout the judge’s lifetime. For the Lord took pity on his people, who were burdened by oppression and suffering. 19 But when the judge died, the people returned to their corrupt ways, behaving worse than those who had lived before them. They went after other gods, serving and worshiping them. And they refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
But even in His anger He sends someone or someones to rescue them. But they don't listen to the judges. God is still faithful and rescued the people though the judges. I am so thankful that He takes pity on His people even when they don't honor Him and even if they turn back to God it is temporary until the judges die. He is faithful to us as well even when we forget about all the great things that He has done. Even when we are stubborn. Thank you Jesus, for being our savior. You are the Judge that also paid the price for sin we have been found guilty of. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
