September 6, 2024 -Finish What You Started

SONG 1:1-4:16

2 CORINTHIANS 8:16-24

PSALM 50:1-23

PROVERBS 22:22-23

2Corinthians 8:10 And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. 11 Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

Giving is to be from the heart. We need to first have a willing heart to give. If we are willing to give then whatever we give is acceptable and should be given out of what we have freely without concern for the things we don't have.

For me this means that the things that I want that don't have should have no influence on my giving. If in my heart I am willing to give a set amount, then what I give should not change based on what money I perceive that I need to get what I want. For example I want to go on vacation this month I should not give less so that I can put more money toward my vacation.

When we have a heart willing to give then our giving is from trusting God. We need to match our willingness with completion of what we have started.
